Frequently Asked Questions

  • What causes foot calluses?

There are a few different things that can cause foot calluses, including:

    • Wearing ill-fitting shoes: This is one of the most common causes of foot calluses. If you wear shoes that are too tight or too loose, it can put extra pressure on certain areas of your feet, which can lead to calluses.
    • Standing for long periods of time: If you stand for long periods of time without taking a break, it can also put extra pressure on your feet and lead to calluses.
    • Having certain medical conditions: Some medical conditions, such as diabetes, can cause changes in the way your body metabolises sugar. This can lead to changes in the structure of your skin and make you more prone to developing calluses.
  • How do I know if my ingrown toenail is infected?

If you have redness, swelling, pain or drainage from your ingrown toenail, it may be infected. If the infection is severe, you may have a fever. Get in touch with us right away if you think you have an infected ingrown toenail.

  • How can I prevent ingrown toenails?

To prevent ingrown toenails, you should:

    • Trim your toenails straight across and not too short
    • File the edges of your toenails after trimming
    • Wear shoes that fit well and do not crowd your toes
  • What can I do to prevent fungal nail infections?

Fungal nail infections are difficult to prevent, but there are some things you can do to lower your risk. Firstly, practice good hygiene and keep your nails clean and trimmed. You should also avoid walking barefoot in public places and wear shoes that allow your feet to breath. If you have a chronic medical condition, talk to us today to learn more about your risk of developing a fungal nail infection.
