Frequently Asked Questions

  • How does foot mobilisation therapy work?

Foot mobilisation therapy is a type of physical therapy that helps to improve the function and movement of the foot. It involves a therapist using their hands to massage and manipulate the muscles, tendons and ligaments in the foot. This can help to loosen tight tissues, reduce pain and inflammation, as well as improve your range of motion. It is often used in combination with other treatments, such as stretching and strengthening exercises. If you are experiencing pain or stiffness in your feet, talk to us today.

  • What kind of stretches usually accompany foot mobilisation therapy?

There are a variety of stretches that can be employed during foot mobilisation therapy. These stretches help to improve range of motion and flexibility in the foot, as well as reduce pain and inflammation. Some common stretches include:

    • Heel cord stretch: This stretch is performed by sitting on the floor with the legs extended straight in front of the body. The affected foot is then placed over the opposite knee and the hand is used to pull the toes back towards the shin. This stretch should be held for 30 seconds and repeated 3 times.
    • Toe raise: This stretch is performed by standing with the feet hip-width apart and holding onto a support for balance. The affected foot is then raised onto the toes and held for 5 seconds. This stretch should be repeated 10 times.
    • Achilles tendon stretch: This stretch is performed by standing with the feet hip-width apart and placing the affected foot behind the other leg. The heel of the affected foot should be touching the ground and the hand is used to push the heel down for a count of 10. This stretch should be repeated 3 times.
  • How long will I receive treatment if I get foot mobilisation therapy?

The number of sessions required will depend on the condition being treated and its severity. For example, acute conditions may only require a few sessions, while chronic conditions may need several sessions over a period of time. Our podiatrists will be able to advise you on how many sessions you are likely to need.

  • Is foot mobilisation therapy the right treatment for me?

There are many different types of therapies and treatments available for foot pain, and it can be difficult to know which one is right for you prior to an assessment. Foot mobilisation therapy may be suitable for you if you have foot pain that is caused by a stiff or tight foot, or if you have had an injury to your foot. Contact us today to book an assessment
